Lately, I’ve noticed built-in sofas showing up in spaces from industrial lofts, to laid-back California retreats, to traditional craftsman homes. I’m wondering — are built-in sofas a thing again?

Norwegian architect Danielle Siggerud’s work represents an ideal for me, as it combines a respect for existing forms with a careful layering of new materials.

Founded by husband-and-wife team Robert Highsmith and Stefanie Brechbuehler, Workstead is known for blending historical architecture with contemporary furnishings and loads of beautiful millwork.

For our next project, The Dean Townhouse, I am hoping to strike a more sophisticated tone by marrying the historical architectural features with clean-lined updates.

The kitchen always seems to be the first place I want to design on each project. Of course this is because designing the kitchen is really fun — but also because it sets the mood for the home.
